The recipe to get X type of weapon is 1 purple weapon of desired type + 2 legendary weapons. If you add moonstone, it's guaranteed to be a Legendary but not all recipes will let you moonstone grind. You cannot do it with shields or class mods and you cannot do it with glitch weapons. I'm not sure for other recipes but this one is 210 moonstone.

Even tried 3 Luneshine purples and it won't grind. Level doesn't seem to matter with white, green or blue grinds. Not sure why it would matter for purple. You can't grind purple and above at random, after that you need "recipes", example: 2 Legendaries+1 Purple=Legendary of whatever weapon type that purple is.
